Elderly man hospitalized after running stop sign, police say.

An elderly Southbury man, who police say ran a stop sign in Middlebury Wednesday afternoon, has been hospitalized after a two-car accident.
According to police, John Bennett, 91, of Southbury, caused the accident when he failed to stop at a stop sign on Southford Road at the intersection of Christian Road in Middlebury at approximately 3:44 p.m. Wednesday.
Bennett’s 2001 Honda was struck by another vehicle in the intersection and then spun out of control and traveled through a fence, shrubs and the front yard of a residence before stopping directly in front of the residence.

Bennett was taken to Waterbury Hospital by the Middlebury Fire Department. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known, according to police.
