Man Threatens Shooting at Waterbury DMV: Police

A DMV customer allegedly threatened to "shoot up the place" early Wednesday morning, Dec. 9.

At approximately 8:35 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, Troop A received a complaint from the Waterbury DMV, located at 2210 Thomaston Ave.

State police said James J. Durand, 74, of 12 Wolf Rd., Wolcott, allegedly told DMV staff he was going to “shoot the place up” after getting angry over an emissions issue.

Several witnesses said they heard the remark and felt threatened. When police arrived, Durand was outside the DMV with an employee and appeared calm. He was not armed, police said.

Durand was arrested and transported to Troop A. He was charged with threatening and breach of peace.

A Dec. 18 court date and $20,000 bond was issued.
