Evelyn was an educator for over 20 years, teaching at the elementary and high school level. She retired from Regional School District #15 as a respected grade four teacher, who touched the lives of many of her students as well as her colleagues. After retirement, Gene and Evelyn enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States and Europe.

Evelyn was a kind, loving, and giving devout Catholic woman, who valued education, her faith, the power of prayer, and attending mass daily. She served in her parish as a Eucharistic Minister, Coordinator of the Prayer Ministry, organist, visitor of the sick in hospitals (10 years), member of the Sandwich Team for the Homeless Shelter (20 Years), and as a Parish Council and Altar Society member. In 2015, she was honored and humbled by being chosen to receive the St. Joseph Medal of Appreciation from the Archdiocese of Hartford for her years of parish volunteer service.

Evelyn loved music! She was an accomplished pianist, playing at school and family events, as well for The Chansonniers, a local choral music group. Evelyn also loved reading books, taking walks, and relaxing on the beaches at Cape Cod. She was busy attending the numerous family life events and activities of her 13 grandchildren. Evelyn was most proud of her Irish Heritage, having visited Ireland with Gene three times.

Evelyn's pride and love of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren was endless! Evelyn leaves three sons, Eugene F. Slason and his wife Rita Redler of Southington, CT, Donald Slason of Middlebury, CT, Thomas Slason and his wife Genevieve of South Yarmouth, MA, two daughters Joan M.
