Police: Car Accident Likely Caused by Medical Condition

Middlebury Police and Middlebury Fire Departments responded to a one-car accident at the intersection of Route 64 and Chase Road around 4 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

Police said upon arrival, they found a Volkswagen Jetta that had veered off the road and "crashed into the cable guard rails on Chase Road."

The driver, Andrew Skipp Jr., 25, of Middlebury, remained inside the vehicle, and was treated for non-life threatening injuries by Middlebury Police and Fire departments before being transported to Waterbury Hospital, according to the police report.

Upon further investigation, witnesses told police that Skripp's vehicle appeared to be driving normally, before it "swerved off suddenly into the east bound lane onto the shoulder, crossing through the grass area and striking the guard rails," the police report stated.

Police said that a medical problem is "most likely the cause of Skipp loosing control of his vehicle."
