Region 15 Students Receive Awards for French Language Competition

More than 90,000 students across the country participate in the annual competition, and nine PHS students won honors.

Nine Pomperaug High School students won accolades for their participation in the French Grand Concours, an annual competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF). It is a multiple choice test with a listening comprehension component.

Henry Hu ranked 9th nationally – 95th percentile -- at the French 3 level, earning him a Gold Medal. Katrina Hon ranked 12th nationally at French 2 for a Silver Medal. Sarah Shepley also won a Silver Medal, having ranked 14th nationally at French 2.

Students of French in grades 6-12 respond to a prompt in written French and compete against students with similar educational background for prizes. More than 90,000 students in all 50 states and Puerto Rico participated in 80th annual Le Grand Concours this year.
