Several Hundred Watch Woodbury Fire Dept's Xmas Tree Bonfire

Annual Clean-up and Safety Demo is Popular Event

WOODBURY Jan 25th, 2025—Several hundred spectators gathered Saturday Jan 25th on a clear chilly night for the Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department’s annual public safety burn of discarded Christmas trees and evergreens. Fire Chief Janet B. Morgan estimated the total number of trees at 300 and noted that local Boy Scout Troop 54 had gathered nearly 100 of the trees from individual households in a fund-raising effort. The 6pm event began with Former Chief Bud Neal’s safety talk and demonstration in setting a single Evergreen alight with a burning piece of paper. Within half a minute the blaze was 15 feet high and over a thousand degrees in temperature. Fire Lt Matt Gereg set off the main bonfire and firefighters in full gear controlled it. The department welcomed townspeople afterwards to free hot cocoa in the nearby firetruck bay at department headquarters. ###
