Cause of Death Revealed for Father Killed by Son in Southbury: UPDATE
State Police say the victim is a 74-year-old local resident and the accused is his son, who also died 90 minutes later at a hospital.
UPDATE: NBC Connecticut reports Thursday that Dennis Fitzsimmons, 74, of Southbury, died as a result ofcompression of the neck and blunt injuries to his head and trunk.
No cause of death has yet been released for Timothy Fitzsimmons, 43, who is accused of killing his father.
He died 90 minutes later at a hospital after allegedly killing his father.

At 10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, officers from the Southbury Police Department/Resident Trooper’s Office responded to Jacob Road in Southbury for a reported medical emergency.

Upon arrival police officers located an unresponsive male victim lying on the floor in the residence, said Kelly Grant, the State Police spokeswoman.
Officers and EMS rendered first aid but determined there were no signs of life, police said. The male victim, Dennis R. Fitzsimmons, 74, of 103 Jacob Road, was pronounced deceased. Officers checked the residence for other victims and said none were found.
Through the course of the investigation, officers located a second man, also in the residence. While speaking with officers, the second man suddenly became ill and unconscious, Grant said. The two were related, as father and son.
Officers and EMS rendered first aid and the second man was transported to Waterbury Hospital for evaluation.
WDMC detectives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Through the course of their investigation, detectives determined that the second man, now suspect, was responsible for the death of the male victim, Grant said. He was identified as Timothy Fitzsimmons, 43, of 103 Jacob Road.
On Feb. 16 at approximately 11:30 p.m., WDMC detectives were notified that the male suspect was pronounced deceased at Waterbury Hospital.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) also responded to the scene, and will assist in the investigation. The OCME will determine the cause and manner of death for both the victim and suspect.
