What Road in Woodbury Needs a Speed Bump?

We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

WOODBURY, CT - Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.

While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Woodbury-Middlebury. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

  • "Steinmann Ave. Middlebury also needs offstreet parking enforced - must zigzag or have to struggle getting out of our own driveways. It's not as if there isn't any room in their driveways - they can make their driveways wider."
  • "Shadduck Road between Rte 188 and Pump House. It is a straightaway and very residential. We have had a child hit by a car and our neighbor's dog was killed while standing in his yard!"
  • "Old Watertown Road in Middlebury and Quassapaugh Road in Woodbury."
  • "Old Watertown Rd. Speeding is out of control!"
  • "Wheeler Road! Also we need rumble strips where Tucker Hill turns into Wheeler - people making that right always cross way over the line and almost hit the people that try to walk/jog/bike there."
