WOODBURY – The annual Woodbury Volunteer Fire Dept carnival will take place in Hollow Park from Thursday Aug 28th through Saturday Aug 30th starting at 6pm each night and ending at 10pm. “We really don’t make any money from this,” said Fire Chief Janet B. Morgan, “Entry is free and it’s a community event to mark the end of summer and the start of the school year.”
Hamburgers, hotdogs, corn on the cob, and the annual specialty of deep fat-fired Oreo cookies are all available. Visitors can purchase a single $35 ticket good for all carnival rides each evening. The town’s active firetrucks also will be present with firefighters happy to explain the equipment as a break from selling, cooking, and serving the carnival snacks.
Raffle tickets offered at $20 for a book of ten tickets feature prizes offered by local merchants and the brandnew concept of a community basket for the first time. The first four prizes worth $1,000 each are home heating fuel from Hocon, a utility credit from Eversource, personal tax preparation from Rivet, and the new Community Basket. The basket is filled with a variety of items ranging from gift certificates to vineyard tours. The $500 prizes are from Onyx Jewlers, and Home & Earth Home Store. The remaining prizes are from LaBonne’s market, New Morning market, and Ace Hardware all in Woodbury.

The carnival has been running on and off for nearly a 100 years, Chief Morgan notes. The Rainbow Amusement Co., Newtown, is the supplier for rides and amusements. Pyrotecnico from New Hampshire will light the night sky with dramatic fireworks to close the vent at 9:30pm Saturday, Chief Morgan said. She added “Any money we make will go to fire prevention and fire extinguisher training for Woodbury residents. These are things not covered in the municipal budget.” ###
