Woodbury Christmas Festival 2015: A Complete Guide

A tree lighting, craft fairs, wreath sales and going back in time are just some of the holiday festivities taking place in Woodbury.

The Woodbury Christmas Festival kicked off on Friday, Dec. 4, with businesses and town residents on Main Street presenting a bright and festive touch, with coordinated lighting along Main Street.

Saturday, Dec. 5

Cub Scout Pack 54 Wreath Sale and Toy Drive

Woodbury Junior Women’s Club Christmas Craft Fair and Boutique

More than 50 exhibitors will display their handiwork for your shopping pleasure. Admission is a donation to the Woodbury Community Services Food and Fuel Bank.

Nonnewaug High School Festivities

  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • The Woodbury FFA chapter invites guests to the Ellis Clark Regional Agriscience Center
  • Holiday plant sale: Poinsettias, wreaths, cemetery pots, Yule logs and more
  • Santa will greet children and pose for photos from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Pet adoption event: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cats and dogs in need of a good home will be waiting to meet you

Woodbury Senior Center: Love is in the Chair

  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • A benefit silent auction featuring one-of-a-kind hand-painted chairs, perfect for gift-giving or home decor
  • All proceeds benefit the Community Services Council for Fuel Assistance
  • A pay-it-forward project sponsored by WOW

Woodbury Post Office

  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Children may drop off letters to Santa. All letters will be answered. Cookies and refreshments available.

Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department

  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Fire Department on Quassuk Road is opening its doors to shoppers. Twelve vendors were specially selected for your holiday shopping needs. Gift wrapping is on site.

Woodbury Public Library Children’s Department

  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Children and parents are invited to drop in and create an ornament.Holiday story time for preschool age students will take place at 10:30 a.m.

United Methodist Church

  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Lunch: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Craft vendors will sell their handiwork for the holidays: Gift baskets, handmade jewelry, knitted items, Mary Kay cosmetics and more.
  • Bake sale
  • Lunch menu: Homemade New England clam chowder, beef barley soup and croissant sandwiches; freshly made desserts
  • Kids’ menu: PB&J sandwiches, monster cookies and a drink

St. Paul’s Church

  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • St. Nicholas welcomes visitors to St. Paul’s festive bazaar.
  • New this year: treasure chest of Christmas gifts

  • Baked goods

Glebe House Museum and Gertrude Jekyll Garden

  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Experience the life of a Woodbury family during the Revolutionary War as the Marshall family, who lived at the Glebe House, prepared for the holidays. The museum will be decorated with holiday trees, swags and one-of-a-kind decorations that may be purchased.

Costumed docents will guide visitors through the downstairs of the house as young docents make pomander balls and string apples to dry over the hearth. Admission is by donations.

St. Teresa’s Church Lunch

  • 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Lunch with the elves: Curtis House clam chowder, chicken noodle soup, chicken salad sandwiches, ham sandwiches, PB&J
  • Cookies and brownies for dessert
  • Santa will be visiting too

Boy Scout Troop 480

  • 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch
  • 4 to 7 p.m. Dinner
  • St. Paul’s Church
  • Boy Scout Troop 480 will be serving lunch and dinner in the lower Parish Hall of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church
  • Menu: Pasta with meatballs and sauce, bread, salad, dessert and a beverage
  • Christmas crafts for sale
  • Raffle items

Flanders’ Artisan Marketplace

  • 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
  • Decked out in festival style, the historic Van Vleck House on the campus of Flanders Nature Center is the setting for the Artisan Marketplace
  • Artisan demonstrations taking place
  • Creations handmade by local residents for sale: Quilts, wreaths, greens, jewelry, pottery, scarves and mittens made from Flanders’ sheep wool
  • Proceeds benefit local artisans and Flanders’ land conservation and educational programs

Woodbury Pewter

  • 9 a.m. to 5 p.m,. Saturday and Sunday
  • Hot mulled cider and gourmet food samples will be offered
  • The Woodbury Christmas Festival ornament may be purchased here throughout the holiday season

Hurd House Museum: Step Into the Past

  • Noon to 4 p.m.

Enjoy Christmastime from yesteryear at the Hurd House. Docents in period costumes will provide tours of the Hurd House. Enjoy the warmth of the open hearth fireplace in this 1680 home, the oldest house in Litchfield County still on its original site.

The District 2 one-room school house will be open as well.

North Congregational Church

  • 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Holiday shopping featuring gifts from around the world
  • Proceeds go toward the church’s mission projects
  • Kenyan jewelry and wildlife carvings support the Nambale Magnet School
  • Hand-woven silk scarves crafted by landmine victims of Laos and Cambodia
  • Free hot chocolate and homemade cookies

Tree Lighting Ceremony: North Green

  • 4 p.m.

Santa will set the new town Christmas tree aglow. Woodbury Middle School and Nonnewaug High School bands will entertain guests as they wait for Santa’s arrival. NHS chorus members will lead the caroling.

Sunday, Dec. 6

Woodbury Pewter

  • 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Hot mulled cider and gourmet food samples will be offered
  • The Woodbury Christmas Festival ornament may be purchased here throughout the holiday season

Flanders’ Artisan Marketplace

  • 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Woodbury Senior Center: Love is in the Chair and Ice Cream Social

  • 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
  • The silent auction continues. All chair bids will be awarded at the Pay-It-Forward finale ice cream social.

North Congregational Church: A Gift of Music

  • 3 p.m.

Soprano Roza Bulat and Pianist Maria Yefimova will perform Mozart, Chopin, Rachmaninoff and more. Cost to attend is $20 at the door. The event is sponsored by the CT Summer Opera Foundation, the CT Community Foundation and the North Congregational Church Music Committee.

Christmas Ornament

The limited edition pewter Christmas ornament will be for sale at the WJWC Craft Fair from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Woodbury Middle School. Past years’ ornaments are available at the craft fair for a reduced price.

Throughout the holiday season, the ornaments will be sold at Canfield Corner Pharmacy, Woodbury Pewter and the Woodbury Town Clerk’s Office.
