WOODBURY March 10th 2025 – The Woodbury Volunteer Fire Dept responded fifty-one times in the first two months of the year, Fire Chief Janet B. Morgan said today. She noted also that March began with a major fire (photo) in a barn used as an office shortly before 1 am on Tuesday March 4th. “We kept it from spreading to another barn with live animals including chickens and pigs and the main house at 305 Hoop Pole Hill Road.”
There were no injuries to people or animals, she said. The destroyed barn housed a workshop, and equipment as well as an office. The cause is under investigation.
In a report prepared for a department meeting Wednesday March 12th, Chief Morgan said the department used six of its seven firetrucks to cope with the barn fire. Woodbury also called in mutual aid from neighboring towns with equipment and firefighters from Bethlehem, Washington, and Roxbury.

The last Woodbury truck returned to headquarters eight hours later at 950a. Tired firefighters promptly refilled its onboard 2000 gallon water tank, recharged airbottles, cleaned gear, and performed other maintenance before going home from the barn fire. As for the first two months of the year, she said the compiled statistics on the 51 runs included six fires, three motor vehicle accidents, and one hazardous spill. “Sometimes we are fortunate,” concluded Chief Morgan. “We had only two downed power lines during the two-day windstorm on March 6th and 7th.” ###
