Woodbury Firefighters Recertify Skills

Semi-Annual Requirement for Fire & Rescue Operations

Woodbury May 5, 2025 – Wooodbury Volunteer Firefighters turned out in force Sunday morning May 4th for semi-annual recertifying in fire and rescue skills ranging from quenching flames from a ladder truck to forcing doors for entry and many other practices. In photo 1, Fire Capt Corey Shaker climbs on a ladder truck. In photo 2, Firefighters Pano Koukopoulos uses a prybar to force open a door with the assistance of Ed King. When not responding to emergencies, Shaker is CEO of his automotive group, Koukopoulos is a professor of environmental science, and King is a Woodbury town highway employee. So far this year, the department has responded to 135 call-outs. Motor vehicle accidents and rescues accounted for 25 calls, fires amounted to 13 calls, and there were four hazardous spills. The remainder included downed power lines, automated alarms without incident, service calls, and community runs. ###
