ABC Lifts Georgetown Tavern Freeze Until Sixth License Claimed
Tavern permit holders don't have to sell as much food, can pour more alcohol.

One lucky Georgetown bar or restaurant could get a tavern license from the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board in the near future.
According to the DC Liquor Law Blog, a Georgetown tavern license was cancelled for the first time since the law went into effect nearly two decades ago, leaving only five out of the allotted six permits.
The previous holder, Saloun, did not meet the deadline to renew its license, according to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, and now the board is taking applications.
A tavern license allows restaurants and bars a higher percentage of alcohol sales, whereas a regular liquor license requires a higher percentage of sales to come from food.
If you are looking to transfer or apply for a tavern license, act fast because as soon as a sixth is issued, there will be another freeze on transfers and applications.
