The Academy of Hope Cuts the Ribbon on New College and Career Center
The D.C. Adult Public Charter School premieres the interactive center Monday.

A classroom was transformed into a College and Career Center at a D.C. school for adult learners.
Out of every three D.C. adults, one is unable to read a newspaper, a map, or complete a job application. Located at 421 Alabama Avenue SE, Academy of Hope in Ward 8 works with students ages 18 and older to improve skills and knowledge.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony taking place 2:15 p.m. Monday will welcome an environmentally-friendly space and over 650 college prep and career geared books. The center will also feature tablets that convert to laptops and an interactive whiteboard. Each student will receive two books of their own as well.

The school partnered with Capital One and The Heart of America Foundation’s READesign team to create the new center that will have about 30 volunteers to put the final touches on the space and run workshops for students. The resources in the center will be used to build community, further learning, and help explore career options.
VOC paints and recycled materials were used in the renovations of the center.
