Carville: Good Man Who Did A Bad Thing

A fiery arrogant man who perhaps still believes power in politics is most important.

It’s always entertaining when James Carville commands the main stage. Not known for mincing words Mr. Carville is in the news predicting the Trump administration’s implosion “within 30 days.” Back in October 2024 weeks before the Presidential election Mr. Carville went venue to venue promoting Matt Tyrnauer’s film about him titled, “Carville:Winning is Everything, Stupid.” In East Hampton at the Hamptons International Film Festival he told the crowd at his movie that in his opinion based on the data he sees Harris will beat Trump. It did not turn out that way. It wasn’t really close enough to contest on any level.

Mr. Carville now has been attempting to propel himself back into the limelight as the voice of reason for the Democratic Party. He has frowned on promoting “wokeness, Defunding the Police” as unhelpful in winning elections to gain power.

Some might say for Mr. Carville power is most important because without it you have no ability to get things done in Washington. That is why Mr. Carville was early to the dance to get President Biden to drop out. It fact he was chastised by the DNC and White House as being unhelpful to the cause of defeating Trump. With some calling Carville a “useful idiot” for Trump. Some in the Biden camp still believe he helped Trump win.

After the election Mr.Carville with his expertise on the line said as a loyal democrat he could not predict Harris was going to or even could lose. Fair point as a democrat but as an independent expert political operative asked on TV panels what will happen he should have been more truthful. Nobody continues to listen to a man who yells fire! Fire! Fire! When there is no fire.

Sadly absent for Mr. Carville presentation in East Hampton was his lovely and well respected wife Mary Matalin a former stalwart republican political operative. It might have been most interesting to hear this “loyal” Bush republican explain how she saw the election playing out based on the data she was looking at? One must wonder if she also believes the Trump administration will implode in 30 days too?

Carville is feisty, a throwback to the days of hot tempered debates based on blinded loyalty no matter what. It was James Carville who during the end game of President Clinton’s Monica Lewinsky situation, said he supported Clinton because, “He was a good man, who did a bad thing.” That statement defines Carville for the ages. His support is blood strong when he commits. However a touch of candor might now be necessary so that to the young new democratic operatives his opinions are credible not just entertainment.
