Concert for Valor: Street Closings, Metro Schedule

As the free celebrity packed Concert for Valor approaches in D.C., schedule alterations for public transportation and road closures are expected.

Stars including Rihanna, Bruce Springsteen, and Carrie Underwood will perform between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. at the National Mall which is located between the Capitol and the Washington Monument.

To prepare for the crowd, the Metro has an extended service plan for Veterans Day:

• Increase number of rail cars
• Provide more 8-train cars, the maximum length
• Arrange faster and transfer train rides
• Increase train frequency on most lines

Train, bus, parking, and more information for Nov. 11 goes as follows:

• Metrorail will be open from 5 a.m. to midnight - certain stations near the National Mall will be open past midnight for passengers
• All stations will be open except Smithsonian because it is in the security zone for the concert
• Metrorail will run on a Saturday schedule so trains arrive every 12 minutes - the rush-hour schedule will be in service right before and after the concert which is every two to three minutes in most places
• Metrobus will run on a Saturday schedule - some routes may alter if travel is near the National Mall
• Off-peak fares will be in effect on Veterans Day
• Parking will be free at all Metro-owned parking facilities
• Yellow Line trains, between Franconia-Springfield and Greenbelt, will replace Blue Line trains for the day for increased service for passengers

Starting 6 a.m. Tuesday, the following roads will be closed and not accessible by vehicle:

• Constitution Avenue NW from Pennsylvania Avenue NW to 18th Street NW
• Madison Drive NW from 3rd Street NW to 15th Street NW
• Jefferson Drive SW from 3rd Street SW to 15th Street SW
• Independence Avenue SW from 3rd Street SW to 17th Street SW
• Maryland Avenue SW from Independence Avenue SW to 7th Street SW
• 3rd Street from Constitution Avenue NW to C Street SW
• 4th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue NW to C Street SW
• 6th Street NW from Pennsylvania Avenue NW to Constitution Avenue NW
• 6th Street SW from Independence Avenue SW to C Street SW
• 7th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue NW to C Street SW
• 10th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue NW to Independence Avenue SW
• 12th Street ramp from I-395 to Pennsylvania Avenue NW
• 14th Street from E Street NW to C Street SW
• 15th Street from E Street NW to Maine Avenue SW
• 17th Street from C Street NW to Independence Avenue SW
