D.C. Council Approves Bill to Seal Marijuana Arrest Records
If a marijuana possession arrest is non-violent, the record will be sealed.

A bill was approved by the D.C. Council that will seal the records of marijuana possession arrests that were non-violent.
The 13 councilmembers voted unanimously in favor of the legislation Tuesday.
All case file information, including descriptions of the arrests, detentions, indictments, or notations of criminal charges will be sealed.

Those convicted of charges that are later legalized or decriminalized will have their records sealed as well.
The bill will go into effect once Mayor Vincent Gray approves it.
