D.C. Council Considers Updating Bicyclists Collision Law

Changing the law would help bicyclists when partially at fault in accidents.

A bill amending the current bicyclists law is being considered by the D.C. Council.

Currently, in order for a bicyclist to collect on insurance after an accident, the driver must be 100 percent at fault.

The new bill, authored by Councilmember David Grosso, would provide a gray area for bicyclists in the event that the accident is not completely one-sided.

The D.C. Council’s Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety met Monday to begin discussing the law.
