D.C. Marks Car-Free Day
The worldwide initiative encourages drivers to give up their cars on Thursday.

If it seems like traffic is a lot lighter today, your eyes aren't deceiving you. Drivers all over the metro area have been pledged to give up their cars on Thursday to mark the worldwide annual Car-Free Day.
According to The Associated Press, 9,000 in the Washington area alone have decided to participate in the initiative. You can take the pledge to eliminate or reduce your driving for one day, too. By filling out the simple online form - which only takes about 60 seconds - you will be automatically entered to win an iPad, a bicycle, a membership, Washington National’s tickets or SmarTrip cards with fare.
There are lots of ways to help you get around sans-car, too. Try riding the Metrorail or hop on a bus. Get a membership. Shop locally or walk to work.
