D.C. Ranks with the Most Frugal Spenders in the Nation
District consumers have low personal spending and least amount of cars per household.

Just in time for holiday shopping, a study shows that D.C. consumers are quite thrifty!
Wallet Hub, a personal finance social network company, examined all 50 states and D.C. to rank the spenders with one being the biggest and 51 being the smallest. The District came in at number 51 which marks it as having the most frugal spenders.
The locations were ranked by taking income and cost of living into consideration.

To create the rankings, the following 10 metrics were analyzed in each state and D.C.:
- Personal Consumption Expenditures per Capita for:
- Food & Beverage (Non-Restaurant and Non-Bar Consumption)
- Gasoline & Other Energy Goods
- Housing & Utilities
- Health Care
- All Others
- Auto & Credit Card Debt per Capita
- Annual Consumer Savings Account Averages
- Number of Cars per Household
- Average Home Square Footage
- Percentage of the Population Spending More than They Make

According to the report, D.C. ranks in the individual categories for personal spending:
- #49 on gasoline and other energy goods
- #47 on health care
- #48 on all other consumption
- #51 for lowest number of cars per household
- #51 for lowest auto and credit card debt
