Due to dangerously low temperatures, the cold emergency will go into effect Tuesday night.

D.C. is experiencing its coldest Nov. 18 since 1959 as well as its lowest temperatures since March.
The District’s Cold Emergency Plan is issued whenever the temperature is predicted to reach 15 degrees fahrenheit or 20 degrees fahrenheit with precipitation.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures in the District are expected to get down to the lower 20s with 10 to 15 mph winds and 25 mph gusts Tuesday night.

Mayor Vincent Gray announced that the plan will go into effect at 7 p.m. The Cold Emergency activates resources to help keep homeless people in the area safe with warming sites and shelter.
“During what is predicted to be dangerously cold weather, I encourage all to be mindful of persons who might need shelter,” Mayor Gray said in a news release. “I am confident District agencies will take every step possible to ensure the safety of our residents in need.”
