Food Bank Pairs With Uber to Feed D.C. Families

Receive a free ride to donate canned goods to your neighbors in need.

District residents without transportation during the season of giving have an opportunity to help those in need.

The Capital Food Bank is partnering with Uber, a ridesharing company, to provide rides to those who are donating to those hungry families.

“Hunger is at all time highs in the DC area with more than 700,000 people in need,” President and CEO of the Capital Area Food Bank Nancy Roman said in a news release.

First-time riders can receive a free ride up to $25 to one of the donation locations by using promo code “CAFB” in the smartphone Uber app. Every time a first-time rider enters the code, Uber will donate $5, equal to 12 meals, to the Capital Food Bank.

  • Tuna
  • Canned chicken
  • Beans
  • Fruit in its own juice

“This innovative partnership solves a bottleneck and will help us get thousands of small donations to children, seniors and families who need them,” Roman said.

The Capital Area Food Bank has been help with hunger in the District since 1980 and delivered 35 million meals this year.
