Free Rides From Georgetown To The Wharf Grand Opening

GEORGETOWN, D.C. — The much-anticipated opening of The Wharf DC begins this Thursday, Oct. 12, and Georgetown residents have a way to get in on the festivities—without the aggravation of traffic.

The Potomac Riverboat Company is launching a water taxi service to The Wharf, with trips from the Georgetown waterfront. To celebrate, riders before 7 p.m. can get a free trip. The Alexandria-based company will provide trips to and from The Wharf and Georgetown, as well as The Wharf and Alexandria.

Free rides from Georgetown to The Wharf Thursday are as follows:

• Depart Georgetown at 2:25 p.m., arrive to The Wharf at 2:50 p.m.
• Depart Georgetown at 5:25 p.m., arrive to The Wharf at 5:50 p.m.
• Depart The Wharf at 1:45 p.m., arrive in Georgetown at 2:10 p.m.
• Depart The Wharf at 4:50 p.m., arrive in Georgetown at 5:15 p.m.

After the kickoff, the water taxis will operate numerous rides a day to and from Georgetown daily. Rides last about 25 minutes. Additional night hours could be added for performances at The Wharf's new venue The Anthem.

The ships are expected to transport hundreds of thousands to The Wharf each year. The Wharf will join the list of destinations Potomac Riverboat Company covers, such as Georgetown, Mount Vernon, National Harbor and Nationals Park.

Potomac Riverboat Company Vice President Charlotte Hall tells Patch in an email the boat is an alternative to traffic and parking hassles. "It will be advantageous to our residents similar to the reasons that the Baseball Boat, and the National Harbor Water Taxi are both a win-win for our residents. It is a convenient and refreshing transportation mode."

Normal ticket prices start at $10 for adults and $7 for children. Roundtrip prices are $18 for adults and $12.60 for children.
