Georgetown Businesses to Participate in PARK(ing) Day
Traditional parking spaces will become temporary park spaces on Friday.

Three Georgetown businesses will turn metered parking spaces in front of their stores into temporary park spaces on Friday.
“PARK (ing) Day is a great opportunity to experiment with what can be done in the area of a single parking space to contribute to a greener, livelier public space,” said Will Handsfield, transportation director of the Georgetown Business Improvement District.
Baked & Wired, 1052 Thomas Jefferson St. NW, will decorate with reclaimed railroad tracks, fresh plants and grass. Visitors can listen to live music and draw or write messages in the “park” with chalk.

Luke’s Lobster, 1211 Potomac St. NW, will provide outdoor seating and buoys while offering beer, wine, and cocktail specials. Four Maine microbrews will debut along with combo deals throughout the day.

PARK(ing) Day began in San Francisco in 2005.
“The Georgetown BID is excited to see the neighborhood enthusiasm for parklets — a concept that is outlined as an important tool for improving public space in the BID’s Georgetown 2028 Plan,” Handsfield said.
