Georgetown Will Temporarily Widen Sidewalks for College Family Weekends
The anticipated busy weekend inspired the sidewalk expansion.

Georgetown sidewalks will get a temporary makeover to help enhance the experience of the city for the predicted busy weekend.
The sidewalks between Wisconsin Avenue and Potomac Street along the 3200 Block of M Street will be widened to correspond with the anticipated visitors for the Georgetown University and American University Parents and Family Weekends. Barriers will widen the sidewalks eight feet on both the north and south sides starting 6:30 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Sunday.
“Georgetown is a top destination every day of the year, but we always see much heavier visitation on weekends, especially Parents weekend,” CEO of the Georgetown Business Improvement District Joe Sternlieb said. “This is the second location that we will pilot temporary sidewalk widening to make our retail streets more comfortable for residents and visitors on a busy weekend.
