Halloween Safety Tips in Georgetown

Have More Treats than Tricks. Take precautions whether walking or driving this holiday.

Whether trick-or-treaters, parents, or party-goers, D.C. police are expecting large crowds in Georgetown on Halloween.

Halloween is Friday, Oct. 31, 2014.

Be advised that popular trick-or-treating hours are 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Remember that kids will be excitedly going between houses and may not be aware of moving vehicles.

For pedestrians and trick-or-treaters on Halloween, always remember:

  • Be cautious of your surroundings even if you’re in your hometown
  • Stay with your group and never wander off alone
  • Inspect your candy before unwrapping and eating it
  • Follow your instincts, if something seems off it most likely is
  • NEVER go inside a stranger’s home, not even for candy

For drivers, follow these tips to ensure the safety of others as well as yourself:

  • Slow down as there will be many children around
  • Take extra time at intersections to watch for pedestrians
  • Be cautious when in reverse and carefully back out of driveways
  • Drive slowly and turn on headlights earlier than usual to spot pedestrians
  • Eliminate distractions in the car and be alert
  • NEVER drink and drive or text and drive
