Sargent tied Charlie’s leash up outside of the coffee shop on the corner of 35th and O Street NW. Upon returning, the dog was missing. A $500 reward was being offered.
His “adopt me” badges were found by a nearby staircase. Charlie is a rescue dog with special needs that requires a lot of care.

Two eyewitnesses came forward with similar stories about the event and possible suspect.
“People have been wonderful, and this is such a testimony to how friendly Georgetown can be,” Sargent said. “We have reasons to hope that we are very close to a break in the case,” Sargent said.
Volunteers have been posting signs around town and neighbors have been offering their support and advice.
“It’s heartbreaking to imagine how traumatized Charlie may be at this point,” Donna Krapf, neighbor of Sargent’s said. “All I can hope is that the person who walked off with him will give him the careful and loving attention he deserves.”
