HIV Awareness Campaign Launches in D.C.

The new campaign highlights the benefits of treatment.

The HIV Treatment Works campaign, that encourages people with HIV to take treatment to live healthier lives, was launched Wednesday in D.C.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention brings awareness to the benefits of treatment for those who are HIV positive as well as their partners.

More than 1.1 million Americans are living with HIV, according to AIDS.gov.

“Our goal is to help everyone with HIV know the tremendous health benefits treatment offers to them and the protection it provides to their partners,” said Jonathan Mermin, director of CDC’s National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD and TB Prevention.

HIV Treatment Works will be promoted at D.C. community events. The campaign efforts will be supported with ads for online, print, and TV along with a website and social media.

Over 100-HIV positive men and women gave their insight to help develop the campaign.

“Today, not only can HIV treatment save lives, it can help stop a national epidemic in its tracks,” Mermin said.
