Key Bridge Closes For Investigation

Update: Both sides of the Key Bridge are now open.

Traffic on the Key Bridge stopped for nearly an hour Friday morning while the Metropolitan Police Department searched for a person in the Potomac river.

Nothing was found during the investigation, an MPD spokesperson said.

"We received a call that someone appeared to have been contemplating jumping," said MPD Lieutenant John Hedgecok. "We conducted a thorough search with no one found."

Police warned that both lanes of the Key Bridge were closed for police activity around 6:30 a.m. The inbound lane opened a few minutes later, and both lanes were open by 7:30 a.m.
