Man Pleads Guilty to 1992 D.C. Murder
Lamont Terry has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

Former Columbia, S.C. man, Lamont Terry, 39, pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree murder in a 22-year-old homicide, U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr. announced.
According to government evidence says, Terry and several others drove to D.C. from Arlington, Va. looking for someone to rob on May 25, 1992.
Terry and his accomplices went to East Potomac Park where they began to rob Chet Matthews, a postal carrier and an Army veteran.

Terry pulled Matthews out of his car, forced him on his knees, and told him to give up his money and jewelry. The accomplices were searching Matthew’s car for valuables when Terry shot him once in the chest, according to court documents.
All of the men fled the scene.

Terry was arrested January 2012 after new evidence pertaining to the murder charge was obtained.
The plea agreement would put Matthews in prison for 20 to 60 years. He will be sentenced on Nov. 14. in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
