GEORGETOWN, DC — A new art gallery in Georgetown will open its doors Saturday, giving visitors a chance to browse available art and watch an artist at work while enjoying a cup of coffee or tea.
StudioLab RD, at 1037 33rd St NW, will have its grand opening at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Regular hours will be Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
D.C.-based contemporary abstract artist Robin Davisson signed a two-year lease with real estate and property management company EastBanc for the 1,860-square-foot space in Georgetown.

In the upstairs part of the space, visitors can watch Davisson at work, from testing ideas in her sketchbook and prepping canvases, to mixing and applying paints and discerning the final touches on completed pieces.
Davisson will be accessible and available during open studio hours to chat with visitors and exchange ideas.

After more than two decades working as a biomedical scientist, Davisson followed her passion for art and painting.
“I am bursting with so much enthusiasm for what I do now that I want everyone to be a part of it. The joy of having discovered this passion in my life after doing something seemingly so different for so long is exhilarating,” Davisson said.

Davisson will be leasing the space from EastBanc, which saw an opportunity to bring locals and visitors into the artistic process while elevating Davisson as a key figure in the city’s art community.
“We were inspired by Robin’s vision for StudioLab RD as a multi-use creative hub that serves as a vehicle for engaging the Georgetown community in the artistic process,” EastBanc Principal Philippe Lanier said. “By inviting guests into her studio and sharing her work with the community, we believe that Robin and StudioLab RD will play an important role in our growing arts district for years to come.”
