New Year's Day 2015: What's Open and Closed in D.C. and Georgetown

From the Metro system to parking restrictions, find out the schedules for Jan. 1.

The winter holidays are winding down and and New Year’s Eve is quickly approaching.

As you start those resolutions, and finish watching all of the movies ending on Netflix for the year, don’t forget that some D.C. and Georgetown businesses and services will operate on alternative schedules in recognition of the holiday.

New Year’s Day is Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015.

City Offices:

  • CLOSED

Metro Service:

  • Rail and bus will operate on Sunday schedules, system will operate 7 a.m. to midnight

Trash & Recycling:

  • NO COLLECTION (Thursday schedule will move to Friday and Friday schedule will move to Saturday)

Leaf Collection:

  • NO COLLECTION

Parking Enforcement:

  • Parking meters, residential parking, and rush hour lane restrictions will not be enforced

“Blocked” Streetcar Parking Enforcement: H Street and Benning Road NE between 3rd Street and Oklahoma Avenue NE:

  • Holiday schedule; 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Smithsonian Institution:

  • Regular hours; 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

National Zoo:

  • Regular hours; 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
