Number of Bicycling and Walking Commuters Continues to Grow in D.C.
Data shows that more D.C. residents are taking environmentally-friendly commutes to work.

New data shows that the number of D.C. workers walking and biking to work has increased.
The United States Census Bureau revealed that between 2008 and 2012, 12.1 percent of working District residents walked to work.
The amount of bike commuters in the District’s population has grown over the years:

- 2000: 1.2 percent
- 2009: 2.2 percent
- 2013: 4.5 percent

The D.C. Department of Transportation has installed 7.5 miles of its goal of 14 miles of bike lanes this year.

The data shows that more commuters are taking public transportation to work than driving. In 2013, 38.5 percent of commuters took the transit while 37.6 percent drove.
