Secret Service Arrests Man with Deadly Weapons Near the White House

An Iowa man will appear in Superior Court after his arrest Wednesday.

A man with a rifle, ammunition, and knife was arrested near the White House.

Around 1 p.m. Wednesday, R.J. “Renae” Kapheim, 41, of Davenport, Iowa was taken into custody.

According to The Washington Post, Kapheim drove his 3013 VW Passat to Washington and parked on Constitution Avenue. Then he approached a Secret Service officer at the checkpoint at 15th and E Street NW and said that he was told to go to the White House by someone from his hometown.

A .30-30 rifle and over 40 rounds of ammunition were found in the trunk of Kapheim’s car. A six inch knife was also in his possession. Kapheim is charged with having an unregistered firearm and other charges are possible, NBC News reports.
