Snow Team Preps for Hazardous Winter Weather Conditions in D.C.
Plows will be in route as accumulating snow is predicted in Georgetown for Jan. 6.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for D.C. and surrounding areas.
The National Weather Service predicts the one to two inch snowfall between 4 a.m. and 1 p.m. Jan. 6 will cause hazardous weather conditions.
There is a 50 percent chance of precipitation for Monday night with a low of 24 degrees fahrenheit. The chance of precipitation increases Tuesday to 90 percent with a high around 36 degrees. Snow is predicted to clear out by that evening with a low of 25 degrees, the NWS reports.

In preparation for the snow, 200 plows are pre-treating streets and bridges to prevent freezing. The D.C. Snow Team will deploy the snow plows to route by 5 a.m Tuesday.

“We are asking property owners to treat their sidewalks before snow begins falling, which will make it easier to clear them after the storm passes,” Department of Public Works Director William Howland said in a news release. “The temperatures will be below freezing Wednesday and Thursday, so clearing sidewalks will be more difficult then.”
