Taft Mansion in Georgetown Goes on Sale for Whopping $14 Million

That's more than twice what it was sold not long ago, thanks to some extensive renovations.

Want to own a piece of American history in Georgetown? It'll cost you $14 million. Developers are putting the historic Georgetown home of former Sen. Robert Taft -- oldest son of President William Howard Taft -- up for sale for more than twice the amount it was sold for earlier this year, according to the Washington Post.

The six-bedroom home was built in 1870 and sold earlier this year for $6 million, but developers are trying to renovate it to raise the value to $14 million. Renovations are currently incomplete and need approval from the Old Georgetown Board, according to the report.

The house is located at 1688 31st Street NW.

Washington Fine Properties, which is responsible for selling the house, describes it as a "legendary Georgetown home ideally sited between Tudor Place and Dumbarton Oaks." WFP paints an elegant portrait of the house, describing it as the scene of many sophisticated parties and dinners, as well as fundraisers that have hosted presidents, Supreme Court justices and ambassadors.

"The Taft Mansion is being re-imagined and artfully designed by Architect Christian Zapatka and finely crafted by Master Builder John McAlpine," the site states. "Upon completion, The Taft Mansion will once again be lauded as one of the finest homes in Washington."
