Someone stole the ashes of her baby, La’Vea, during a move from McKinney's three-bedroom apartment in Hollywood, Florida.

The ashes were inside a teddy bear that was placed outside the apartment while McKinney and her daughter went to the U-Haul store to rent a truck.

"When we returned we noticed that someone had went through the stuff taking all the things they wanted, amongst those things were clothes, furniture but most importantly they took the teddy bear that had La’Vea’s remains," McKinney said. "I don’t care about anything else, because I have lost so much. All I want is my baby back."

Miranda Grossman of the Hollywood Police Department confirmed that police officers spoke with McKinney on Tuesday and filed a report of the incident.

"I took the day off to move from my old apartment to the new. As a woman trying to move a three-bedroom apartment by myself was a lot," McKinney said. "After my daughter and I took everything out of the house we realized that it couldn’t all fit in my truck."

She told Local 10 News that her family is reliving the loss of La’Vea.

"Whoever has it, I''m not mad at you," she told the television news crew. "That is our family. That is my kid's sister. That's my child. She is us. She is alive to us."

The teddy bear had on a white dress when it was stolen.

McKinney told Patch that while she is only 33, she has already experienced a lifetime of loss.

"I know losing all to well," she said. "I've lost once. I don’t want to loose again."
