Woman Duct Taped To Chair In Florida Nursing Home

BOYNTON BEACH, FL — At least one worker at a Florida nursing home used duct tape to silence a 67-year-0ld dementia patient and keep her bound to a chair while another saw what was happening but never reported it, according to Boynton Beach police. Lashron Williams and Phygelle Brudent were each charged with elderly abuse and false imprisonment. The incident occurred the night before the Fourth of July holiday at the Regal Park Assisted Living Facility.

"The victim had duct tape on both hands and feet," according to court documents. "The suspects at one point tilted the chair back and had it against a bed making it very unsafe for the victim."

Because of her condition, police said the woman was unable to provide any information about what happened to her.

Police said Brudent admitted to taking the woman to another patient room where she "tied her to a chair using a cloth pajama pant to wrap around her waist area and "used duct tape to tier her hands and feet against a chair and used the same tape around her mouth to prevent her from screaming."

Brudent told police that she was frustrated the woman wouldn't stay quiet and that she had other patients to care for.

The duct tape was placed over the victim's mouth and hair, according to court documents.

Williams admitted to knowing that Brudent used duct tape restrain the woman and even saw the victim restrained but never reported the incident to anyone.

"She said at some point during the event she had to remove the tape around the victim's mouth to give her sleeping pills," according to court documents. "She said she then removed small portions of the tapes around the victim's body but she never reported the incident to anyone. She said she discussed it with Phygelle and told her taping the victim to the chair was wrong."
