Hurricane Michael: Donate Emergency Supplies At Aventura Mall

AVENTURA, FL — With Florida's Panhandle reeling from the devastation of Hurricane Michael, a number of Miami area organizations have come together to extend a helping hand to our neighbors to the north. The Aventura Police Department and at least 10 other organizations, including iHeartRadio, will be collecting emergency supplies outside Aventura Mall all day Monday and Tuesday. The collections began on Sunday.

Organizers have asked that people only donate the following new items at this time:

• Generators
• Chainsaws
• Flashlights
• Batteries
• Unopened boxes of baby diapers, baby food, baby wipes
• Large boxes of sealed canned food
• Unused blankets, cots, sleeping bags
• Large unopened bags of pet food or full boxes of canned pet food

Every item must be boxed and labeled, according to Sgt. Chris Goranitis of the Aventura Police Department. "There will be no clothing or used items accepted at this location."

Donations will be accepted between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The trucks will head out for the Panhandle at 6 a.m. Wednesday

Sponsoring organizations also include Mobile Mike, Florida Highway Patrol, Aventura Mall as well as the municipalities of Aventura, North Miami, Sunny Isles, Hallandale, Bal Harbour and Golden Beach.

Aventura Mall is located at 19501 Biscayne Blvd. Donations are being accepted in the parking lot across from the Macy's Men's Home Store.

From Miami International
Take 1-95 North to Exit 16, (Ives Dairy Road). Turn right (East) onto Ives Dairy Road and go to Biscayne Blvd (one mile). Turn right (South), onto Biscayne Blvd and continue straight through 3 sets of lights; Aventura Mall will be on your left.

From Ft. Lauderdale International Airport
Take 1-95 South to Exit 16, (Ives Dairy Road). Turn left (East) onto Ives Dairy Road and go to Biscayne Blvd (one mile). Turn right (South), onto Biscayne Blvd and continue straight through 3 sets of lights; Aventura Mall will be on your left.

From the Beaches
Take A1A to the William Lehman Causeway (192nd Street Causeway) to Biscayne Blvd, turn right. Aventura Mall will be on your right.
