Driver Suffers Burns In Massive Tanker Fire: Police

Video shared on social media showed flames and a massive plume of smoke in the area.

DAVIE, FL — A driver was injured Sunday morning when a gasoline tanker struck a bus and caught fire on Interstate 595 in Davie, according to police.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. on the westbound interstate east of Southwest 136th Avenue, Florida Highway Patrol said. The tanker sideswiped an empty Broward County Transit bus that was out of order and parked on the left shoulder, according to police, who said the tanker then hit the median wall and continued west but ignited on fire.

Video shared on social media by X user Dr. Lisa Bucci showed flames and a massive plume of smoke in the area. Emergency personnel extinguished the blaze and the driver was taken to a hospital for minor burns, police said.

Westbound traffic was diverted onto State Road 84, and the interstate was clear as of 8:50 p.m., according to police.
