Person Detained Carrying Rifle Near Florida Park

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, FL — A person carrying a rifle was detained on Friday near Oleta River State Park, according to the mayor of North Miami Beach. The incident resulted in the Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High Biscayne Bay Campus and possibly other schools being placed on lockdown for a time. Oleta is Florida's largest urban park and is located near the beach community of Sunny Isles.
Mayor George Vallejo of North Miami Beach confirmed that police had the person in custody as of Friday afternoon.
