Substitute Teacher Had Sex With Teen At Aventura Mall: Cops

HOLLYWOOD, FL — A substitue teacher allegedly had sex with a 15-year-old student in the parking lot of Aventura Mall, on the roof of the girl's condo, in his car and in an art classroom, according to Hollywood police. Roman Jose Fondon Jr. was taken into custody by police on Wednesday. He is charged with three counts of sexual battery on a minor and three counts of lewd or lascivious battery on a minor.

"Fondon was working as a substitute teacher at Ben Gamla Charter High School while engaging in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student," explained Officer Christian Lata of the Hollywood Police Department in announcing the arrest on Thursday afternoon. The investigation was conducted by the Hollywood Police Department’s Special Victims Unit.

"Further investigation revealed he also committed lewd or lascivious battery on a minor in the neighboring cities of Hallandale and Aventura," according to Lata.

Speaking at a bond hearing, Fondon's mother told the court: "These are fantasies and false accusations." The alleged inicidents occurred between February and April, according to Hollywood police.

Opened in 2007, Ben Gamla was the first Hebrew-English Charter School in the United States. The school has since opened other locations.

"Due to the severity of this crime and the position of authority held by the suspect over his victim, the Hollywood Police Department is requesting anyone who may have been victimized or has any information pertaining to the incident, which occurred in Hollywood, to please contact the Hollywood Police Department," Lata added.
