XXXTentacion Murder: 2nd Arrest Made

Police are still searching for a second gunman as well as a person of interest in the slaying of rapper XXXTentacion

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — Florida police have made a second arrest in the shooting death of rapper XXXTentacion. The artist was killed June 18 in a brazen daytime shooting in South Florida outside Riva Motorsports. Fans gathered outside the business to pay their respects in the days following the shooting.

Twenty-two-year-old Michael Boatwright was charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday while in a Broward County jail on unrelated drug charges. He is the second person charged since Dedrick Devonshay Williams of Pompano Beach, Florida was arrested little more than 48 hours after the slaying of the artist, whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy.

"Just before 4 p.m. on June 18, Boatwright and another armed accomplice confronted Onfroy in an apparent robbery as he was leaving RIVA Motorsports," said the Broward Sheriff's Office in announcing the arrest on Wednesday. "At least one of the suspects fired a gun, striking Onfroy. Both of the suspects fled in a dark-color SUV. Onfroy was transported to Broward Health North where he was pronounced dead."

"Investigators want to find out what he knows about the murder," the Broward Sheriff's Office explained. "Allen is also wanted in Broward County on a felony warrant for violation of probation for possession of PVP (flakka) and carrying a concealed firearm."

The artist had apparently been shopping for a motorcycle at the business when he was ambushed in an apparent robbery as he was about to leave in his car.

Williams was arrested during a traffic stop in Pompano Beach. He was charged with unpremeditated first-degree murder and grand theft of a motor vehicle. Police said he was driving without a valid license and had an outstanding warrant. He was also serving a probation at the time of the incident.

XXXTentacion lived in the 6500 block of NW 62nd Terrace in nearby Parkland.

Attorney David Bogenschutz told the Associated Press that the rapper had visited a bank shortly before the shooting and possibly withdrew cash for the purchase.

In the days following the shooting a steady stream of fans placed candles, flowers and teddy bears on the sidewalk near where the rapper was killed. They decorated a football field length of sidewalk with chalk art that included messages of sympathy and loss such as “Feel for you XXX” and “4evr Young.”
