Bradenton Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash

Breaking: The fatal wreck happened on 53rd Avenue East Tuesday morning.

BRADENTON, FL — A 26-year-old Bradenton man is dead following an early Tuesday morning crash on 53rd Avenue East.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2009 Toyota Camry driven by Russell Steven Omens, 65, of Bradenton was heading west on 53rd Avenue East in the left turn lane at 22nd Street Court East around 5:50 a.m. At that time, a Suzuki driven by Richard Thomas Sconyers was heading east on 53rd in the inside lane near the 22nd Street intersection.

Troopers say Omens proceeded to make a left turn south onto 22nd Street when his Camry went into the path of Sconyers' motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the right side of the Camry.

Sconyers, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene, a highway patrol report said.

Omens has been cited for failing to yield to an approaching vehicle, the report noted.

The crash closed eastbound lanes of 53rd Avenue East until just before 9:30 a.m.
