DUI Wolfpack Set to Prowl Manatee, Sarasota Counties

Breaking: The Florida Highway Patrol has announced a DUI crackdown this weekend.

BRADENTON, FL — Motorists with big party plans over the weekend will want to designate a driver rather than risk getting behind the wheel after knocking back too many. The Florida Highway Patrol has announced its intentions to host a DUI Wolfpack detail this weekend.

The detail hits the road at 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 and wraps up around 5 a.m. Sunday. Counties included in the enhanced enforcement are Sarasota, Manatee, Desoto, Hardee and Highlands.

Troopers haven’t said exactly which roads they intend to focus on during the detail.

“Troopers conducting the detail will be mobile, monitoring traffic, in an effort to maximize their visibility and effectiveness in removing impaired drivers from the roadways,” the agency said in an email.

It is illegal to get behind the wheel in Florida with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or higher. Drivers under the age of 21 are considered impaired with BACs of 0.02 or higher.

Motorists who encounter impaired or aggressive drivers on area roads can call *FHP from their mobile phones to report concerns.
