Riverwalk East Extension: What Would You Like to See Included?

The City of Bradenton has a public meeting planned next week to gain input on the eastward extension of Riverwalk.

BRADENTON, FL — Bradenton residents who want to learn more about the planned eastward extension of Riverwalk will get their chance next week. The city has announced an Aug. 17 meeting on the topic.

Set to take place at 6 p.m. at Marriage & Family Works, 1001 Manatee Ave. E., the meeting will provide a chance for city officials to gain public input on features and amenities residents would like to see included in the extension.

Plans for the extension so far call for relocating the Glazier Gates Park from Manatee Avenue East to a space along Riverside Drive East on the Manatee River.

“There are plans to immediately recreate the park’s playground so the surrounding neighborhood is not without it for long,” the city promised in an announcement of the meeting.

Planning for the extension remains in its initial phases. No dates for construction or costs have been announced. In its present state, Riverwalk extends about 1.5 miles through downtown along the Manatee River. The park features a botanical walk, amphitheater, a family fun zone and an event area.
