A Gibsonton Bridge Replacement Project In Design-Phase Will Cost $1.7 Million To Complete

Hillsborough County officials are expected to replace an obsolete bridge built in 1974. It is without stripes and absent of shoulders.

GIBSONTON, FL —A small bridge on Phillips Lane over Kitchen Branch in Gibsonton will be replaced with a new box culvert bridge in the near future, according to officials of Hillsborough County.

The existing bridge was built in 1974 and is considered functionally obsolete, county staff said. The current bridge is unstriped with no shoulders, and there are no sidewalks on the bridge. The new bridge will include safety features such as concrete traffic barriers, sidewalks, and road shoulders or bike lanes. The road approaches to the bridge also will be replaced and updated to current standards.

The $1.7 million replacement project requires closing the existing bridge crossing for approximately three months for demolition and construction. A continuous detour will reroute traffic to U.S. Highway 41.
