3 Students Arrested After BB Gun Found On Campus
Reports of a firearm on the McClane Middle School campus ended in the arrest of three students Tuesday.

BRANDON, FL — The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is imploring parents to remind their kids that even toy weapons can get them in hot water if they’re brought on a school campus. The plea comes on the heels of three arrests on the McClane Middle School campus Tuesday.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies learned of a possible firearm on the 306 N. Knights Ave. campus through reports on social media. The school was subsequently placed on lockdown while authorities “quickly identified and searched two students and located a non-functional BB gun in a student’s book bag,” an email from the sheriff’s office said.

A secondary search of all eighth-graders in the cafeteria turned up no additional weapons, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies did, however, bring three juveniles into custody on disruption of a school function and resisting arrest without violence charges. The charges, the agency noted, are misdemeanors.
“Deputies are asking parents to remind their children that weapons and look-alike weapons are not allowed on school grounds and even toy guns can get students in trouble and become problematic for law enforcement when confronting students in these situations,” the email said.
