$60 Credit Toward Waste Fees For Eligible Homeowners: County

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — Local homeowners experiencing financial struggles can now apply for assistance to help cover a portion of their solid waste management disposal fees, according to a Hillsborough County news release.

The Solid Waste Management Hardship/Affordability Credit program is for eligible homeowners, and is designed to provide a $60 credit issued against the solid waste collection and disposal fee for an approved property.

The Qualifications Are Listed Below:

  • The property must be an owner-occupied single-family home in Hillsborough County.
  • Must have a homestead exemption.
  • The total income of all residents within the household, including owners of the property, must be at or below 100 percent of the Federal Poverty Level as determined each year by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
  • The home also must have a taxable value of less than $100,000 after exemptions.

The deadline to apply is Sept. 30. Before you fill out your application, make sure you have these required documents:

  • A copy of the 2020 federal income tax return to verify household income.
  • A copy of valid identification for all adults living in the home.
  • A copy of identification for all children living in the home, such as a birth certificate, school records or immunization records.

If you are approved, the county will pay a portion of the homeowner’s solid waste management disposal and/or collection assessment for the approved year.
