Amtrak Train Strikes, Kills Homeless Man
Hillsborough County deputies are investigating a Sunday night fatality involving an Amtrak train.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Sunday night fatality involving an Amtrak train.
According to the agency, the train had just left the station in downtown Tampa round 5:48 p.m. May 7 with 120 passengers on board. As the train traveled eastbound, a homeless man was walking on the tracks in the area of Highview Road.
“The conductor blew the horn on the train but was unable to stop and struck the pedestrian,” an email from the sheriff’s office said. “The pedestrian died at the scene.”

The sheriff’s office has not yet released the name of the man or his age.
